The 2023 Annual Sports Day, Junoon 2.0, held at St. Mary's Academy, Saharanpur, was an extravaganza of athleticism and grace, exemplifying the spirit and dedication of both students and organizers. This esteemed event was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Ms. Gazal Bhardwaj, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, Saharanpur, and the Guest of Honour, Rev. Fr. (Dr.) K. V. George. The occasion was marked by a splendid display of sportsmanship, discipline, and cultural expressions.
The program commenced with the grand arrival and welcome of the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, accompanied by a dignified guard of honor. The event was officially inaugurated with the lighting of the torch, artfully carried around the venue by the academy's captains. Subsequently, the cauldron was ceremoniously ignited by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour.
In a touching display of reverence, the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour paid tribute to the martyrs, followed by the unfurling of the national flag and the rendition of the school anthem. The meticulously executed march past was led by the principal, Rev. Sr. Jerin Jermila, and the declaration to open the meet was made by the Chief Guest.
The event witnessed a splendid array of performances and sports activities. The primary wing students set the tone with a captivating welcome dance, followed by exhilarating 100-meter races for both junior boys and girls. The pre-primary drill, aptly titled "Enchanting Butterflies," showcased the graceful movements and synchronization of the little angels.
The senior boys and girls demonstrated their speed and agility in the 100-meter races, and the primary wing students won accolades for their flawless drill performance. The pre-primary "Flower Drill" delighted the audience with its charm. The students of classes 6th to 8th presented a mesmerizing Gujarati dance, "Festal Colours," through themed choreography.
The relay races, a highlight of the day, featured four categories: junior boys, junior girls, senior boys, and senior girls. "Bharat ke Shoorveer" celebrated the valor and strength of the Indian armed forces, leaving spectators in awe. The school band's symphony resonated with everyone present, adding an artistic touch to the event.
Martial arts and yoga presentations offered a learning experience to the audience, while the tug of war competitions for both girls and boys stirred up immense enthusiasm. The senior girls' choreography titled "Strong Women, Strong Nation" paid tribute to the women power of the Indian army, Navy, and Air force. The grand finale, a lively Bhangra performance, had everyone clapping and dancing to the beat.
Ms. Gazal Bhardwaj, in her special address, showered praise on the tireless efforts of the academy's management, principal, staff, and students. Rev. Fr. (Dr.) K. V. George, the Guest of Honour, lauded the creative spirit of the students.
The Green House emerged victorious, securing the winning trophy with 204 points, while the Yellow House claimed the runner-up position with 202 points. The event concluded with the singing of the National anthem, followed by a delightful high tea for the distinguished guests and staff.
